2025-2026 JAPN Non-Student Tutor Application Form
The Japanese Studies Program is currently accepting applications for the JAPN Non-Student Tutor (NST) position for FA25, WI26, and SP26.

We are looking for applicants who are available to teach JAPN tutorial sections on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday throughout the Fall Quarter 2025, Winter Quarter 2026, and Spring Quarter 2026. NSTs are required to attend a weekly TA meeting (the meeting schedule will be announced at the beginning of each quarter).

[Qualifications]
- Applicants should have a native or near-native competence in the language, should speak the standard variety of Japanese, and should have knowledge of fundamental Japanese grammar and culture. 

- Qualified candidates must have a four year college degree. Preference will be given to candidates with degrees in linguistics, Japanese language, education, foreign language pedagogy, and/or other language education-related areas. Applicants with prior teaching experience will be given preference.

- Applicants must have essential computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Zoom, etc.) and must be able to communicate in English with the admin staff.

- Applicants are required to have exceptional interpersonal communication skills, understanding of the collective business culture, and strong sense of team work as they team-teach and work closely with the instructors and other teaching assistants. Successful candidates will have a strong work ethic, professional demeanor, positive attitude, and understanding of the program's mission. All the written communication with the admin staff must be conducted in English. 

- All applicants hired by UC San Diego will be required to provide proof of United States citizenship or eligibility/authorization to work in the United Sates.

         a) a statement of purpose hand-written in Japanese (in 楷書) as a JPEG or PNG attachment
         b) your resume detailing language and teaching background as a PDF attachment

[Note]
- All JAPN TAs (including NSTs) must attend the mandatory JAPN TA Orientation at the beginning of the fall quarter. 
- All newly hired ASEs (including NSTs) must attend the campus-wide New Employee UAW Orientation to be held at the beginning of the fall quarter. 
- NST contracts are valid for one quarter with the potential for re-hire based on enrollment needs and availability of funds. All Current NSTs must reapply each quarter for the JAPN NST position.
