2023 Woo Hoo Improv - Sign Up Sheet
Hello! My name is Josh Simpson. I have been performing and teaching improv, sketch and character-based comedy in Los Angeles for 15 years. I taught and performed at the UCB Theater for over 10 years, and I toured the USA and Europe with my improv and storytelling podcast, The MEAT Improv.

I've acted, written and worked for CONAN, Funny or Die, Dave, Reno 911! and I just finished writing and acting on season 2 of a show called PBC starring Kate Flannery, Cheri Oteri & Danny Trejo.

I'm currently teaching a Comedy Creation class that can be taken in person (in LA) or on ZOOM on Tuesday nights.  Details below.

THE IMPROV WORKOUT

Every week, we have a new focus.
We will do exercises around the focus & then scene work centered around the lesson of the day.
Examples of a "focus" - listening, adding info, finding your point of view, being a useful voice of reason, etc.
As always, there will be an overall emphasis on being a good, selfless, fun teammate.

THE COMEDY CREATION WORKSHOP - IN PERSON and on ZOOM (if you prefer)

This workshop is designed for comedians who want to create and perform their own original material.

Students generate and develop comedy ideas in class. We hone those ideas through writing and rehearsal, and then we perform those ideas at The Woo Hoo live show at the end of each class.

You can show up to class with whatever you've got. A half idea, no idea, a fully written idea. Whatever.
We will work through the idea and develop it together, you will write your idea(s) up, we will revise it and you will have the chance to perform whatever you like at the end of class.

If you do the work, every student should leave the class with at least one polished piece.

I have a list of prompts to get your brain going. You can do characters, sketch, storytelling, improv, stand up, songs, whatever you like! This is an ongoing workshop where students receive individual attention and hopefully develop a dossier of characters and written material they can perform and showcase around town. You are paying for individual attention in each class, as well as feedback from myself and the group.

You get out of this what you put into it! I provide the classroom space to experiment, constructive feedback and a place to perform every month.
