Thank you for your interest in volunteering with NLG-LA's Legal Observer Program covering Los Angeles County and Orange County. Please be advised, not everyone who applies for the LO program will be selected to serve as a volunteer. We will review all applications and will directly contact those who are selected as volunteers to discuss next steps.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST DISCLAIMER: Any person who works in or previously worked in a contractual, employment, or any other similar relationship with or as an agent of any private security or intelligence agency, law enforcement agency, prosecutor’s office, or military law enforcement or intelligence agency, or any similar governmental agencies, or with any members of such agencies, MUST DISCLOSE THIS CONFLICT TO NLG-LA STAFF PRIOR TO PARTICIPATING AS A VOLUNTEER IN OUR LEGAL OBSERVER PROGRAM. Staff will determine waiver of any disclosed conflicts on a case by case basis.The purpose of this policy is to exclude from NLG-LA's mass defense work persons who pose a risk to the confidentiality, and other protections, of our mass defense work. These limitations on participation in mass defense work include but are not limited to members whose spouses or partners, immediate family members, household members, or close friends are members of policing agencies, prosecutor’s offices, or other law enforcement agencies, or anyone else who could compromise confidentiality or constitute a conflict of interest.
