Hear Your Song — Session Leader/Composer/Musician/Volunteer Sign-Up
Hear Your Song is a 501(c)(3) organization that empowers children and teens with serious illnesses and complex health needs to make their voices heard through collaborative songwriting. In live, collaborative songwriting sessions, Hear Your Song volunteers work with kids ages 6-18 to guide them through the process of writing their own songs about anything they want — from loving pasta to living with epilepsy. Kid songwriters write all their own lyrics and generate ideas for musical style, melody, instrumentation, and tempo. Volunteer composers and musicians then use those ideas to set the words to music and record the song exactly as the child imagined it to be heard, celebrated, and shared. Some kids choose to sing on the recordings themselves and to compose their own music.

Hear Your Song has partnered with hospitals, camps, schools, and other nonprofit organizations throughout the United States. Hear Your Song has recorded over 200 songs by kids ages 6-18! Visit https://www.hearyoursong.org to listen and learn more.

At this time, we have both virtual and in-person programming. We are looking for volunteers who can support by...

  • Facilitating songwriting sessions with youth with serious illnesses (you DON'T need to be an experienced songwriter since you'll always be working in a pair)
  • Composing music with lyrics written by youth songwriters
  • Recording instruments or vocals for songs written by youth songwriters
  • Producing lyric videos for completed songs
  • Amplifying the songs and voices of kids through social media

    • We welcome musicians with an interest in any and all genres — we've recorded rock, pop, hip-hop, jazz, country, musical theater, bachata — you name it!

    We're also looking for volunteer audio engineers/producers and video producers — we turn each completed song into a lyric video.

    Volunteers with non-musical skills — marketing, fundraising, graphic design, etc. — are also always welcome to reach out.
