We are exploring new terminology to define what is happening to people who have smoldering MS; i.e. they are NEIDA (no evident disease activity) but are getting worse.

Do you understand the term smoldering-MS-associated worsening or SAW?

SAW is an umbrella term to capture worsening that is not due to relapses, i.e. relapse associated worsening (RAW). SAW includes PIRA (progression independent of relapse activity), which captures physical worsening), but goes further to include worsening using other metrics or biomarkers, e.g. accelerated brain volume or retinal nerve fibre loss, worsening cognition, etc.
