- What is InCulture?
The InCulture research project, full name "Presenting Intangible Cultural Heritage through Augmented Reality technologies", concerns an e-platform allowing users to collect, record, organise and sort elements of Intangible Cultural Heritage or personal testimonies concerning the past. They will also be able to collaborate in creating texts that will present and connect the above elements into unified narratives.
The platform will be usable as a simple repository (a sort of wikipedia of Intangible Cultural Heritage), but it will offer much more than that. Through Augmented Reality technology the platform will allow the presentation of the ICH elements and narratives in the physical space where the user is.

- What is Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH)?
Intangible Cultural Heritage comprises all non-material cultural elements of a people or location. This includes expressions and activities; knowledge and information such as local history, legends, customs, and oral traditions; dances, events, music, songs; skills or techniques that function as testimonies of traditional culture; as well as tools, objects, crafts and the cultural spaces associated with them.

- What is Augmented Reality (AR)?
The term refers to digital elements (texts, pictures, videos etc) projected onto the physical environment in real time, through the use of a smartphone, laptop or other suitable device.
The user of InCulture who finds his/her self in a particular street or village will be able to see documents or narratives related to this particular space, simply by pointing their smartphone camera at a building, a square or any other direction.

The project is being implemented by the FORTH - Foundation for Reaserch and Technology and the Rhodes Project (Rhodes centre for Historical and Social Research) within the RESEARCH - CREATE - INNOVATE programme, and co-founded by the European Union and specifically the European Regional Development Fund and national funds within the framework of the Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Operational Programme (EPAnEk) (reference code T1ΕΔΚ-03060 )
