Nexen Watersports Club Questionnaire
A Squamish club to maintain waterfront access for windsports and introduce new users

Main focus: Encourage Newport development that is compatible/safe for Windsurfing, Kitesurfing, Wingsurfing, hydrofoiling, etc. Potentially developing into club facilities akin to Locarno/UBC windsurfing with optional fleet use add-ons.

Secondary possibilities:
 - Windsport community gatherings/events when appropriate
 - Gear fleet for member use
 - Storage facility for club/personal gear at beachfront
 - Instruction for people wanting to learn
 - Club boat for accessing wind during construction, teaching, safety

The Developments plans for Nexen/Newport beach include little beachfront parking (10 spots at a boat launch), and a beach layout that may be very incompatible with windsports, particularly launching/landing kites.

On a typical summer day, there are over 50 windsport users and vehicles launching from Nexen. The spit is already at capacity nearly every day. The SWS is great, but does not have the capacity (or desire?) to advocate for access at Nexen.

We need to gather our voices to maintain access for the quickly growing wind community before developers push us out! Developers should see the appeal of ongoing growth in windsports and will benefit from windsport infrastructure.
