Parents/Guardians,
IF your child took Algebra 1 or Algebra 1 Honors last year, they weren't given the opportunity to take the Algebra State End-of-Course (EOC) exam last May. The EOC typically counts as 30% of the students overall grade in the course AND a passing score is required to earn a high school diploma.
Due to the cancellation of EOC testing last May, the State is allowing students to take the Algebra EOC in September and let it count 30% of the overall grade, IF the EOC score improves the final course grade. IF you think your child will study on their own to prepare, so the exam will actually increase their overall Algebra course grade, you can register him/her to take the exam in September using the link below. The Algebra EOC will be given again in December, but during this administration it will ONLY meet the graduation requirement, not improve the overall Algebra course grade.
We are asking you to make this decision, because we don’t want to pull students from valuable class time in September to test them, if they are not going to study and be prepared. We feel that most students will perform better in December after being back in math class and refreshing their math skills. However, we don’t want those who want the opportunity to take the Algebra EOC to raise their overall course grade to miss the opportunity.
The deadline to register for the September Algebra EOC is August 14th.
