Requirements for Membership in Good Standing
Attendance/Dues
Attendance at NHS meetings is mandatory for members. Meeting reminders will be announced on the PA, by email, by the portal, and via text message. However, it is your responsibility to know when the meetings are and make them a priority. Approval of meeting absenteeism must be sought from your advisor in person (not by email) at least 24 hours prior to the meeting date. You must complete a Meeting Absence form and make up an additional one credit if the absence is excused or two credits if the absence is unexcused. If two meetings are missed, the NHS faculty council may deem this grounds for dismissal. All members are required
to attend the Induction Ceremony.
Scholarship
A candidate enters the CHS chapter with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.40 and will be expected to maintain a 3.40 weighted GPA in every grading period. Failure to maintain a 3.40 weighted GPA will require the student to be dismissed from the National Honor Society. If a senior falls below a 3.40 weighted GPA, he/she will not receive a stole for graduation.
Service
Members must fulfill 8 credits for returning members and 6 credits for new members (1 credit is equal to approximately 4 hours of service). Please note that all members are required to volunteer at World Fest (Wednesday, April 22, 2020) as part of their service requirement. Seniors must finish all events prior to receiving a stole. Attendance will be recorded by the event coordinator and submitted to the NHS advisor. If you fail to complete your service, you may be dismissed from NHS. It is your responsibility to register for a service activity. If you have a suggestion of a service to add to the choices, please email to
chsnhsboard@gmail.com. We also encourage the members to be event coordinators.
Character
NHS members are expected to serve as role models for the student body. The administration and faculty will receive a list of NHS members and have been asked to report to the sponsor any instances that reflect less-than-exemplary character. All NHS members will (but not limited to):
Treat all members of the CHS community with respect. Members should not have any disciplinary referrals to the administrators, indicating a lack of respect shown to any individual.
Maintain a courteous and cooperative attitude at all times.
Demonstrate a high standard of honesty, reliability and ethics
NHS members will not:
-Be involved in any activity that may result in suspension, expulsion, or police intervention at school or violate the Humans Relations Policy.
-Cheat in any way on homework, class work, quizzes, tests, projects, papers or any other work assigned by your teachers to fulfill the requirements of a course. This includes copying homework or giving homework to others. -Academic Integrity is demanded.
-Be absent without a valid written excuse. Don’t leave school without signing out in the front office. Don’t cut class.
-Forge another person’s name for any reason whatsoever.
-Violate the HCPSS Drug and Alcohol Policy in any setting.
-Act in an immoral or dishonest way in school or elsewhere
-Violate the expectations for student behavior outlined in the HCPSS “Student Code of Conduct” in any setting.
Remember that you are the role models for the student body.
