The Dare
It's Halloween night, and you are out trick or treating with a group of friends and a babysitter. You have just finished with the last house in the neighborhood, and you are talking about what to do next. Halloween is on Saturday this year, so you don't have to be home until 9:30 pm. This gives you an hour. As you discuss watching a scary movie versus telling some ghost stories, you pass a creepy, abandoned house. One of your friends speaks up. "Isn't that the Seymour Estate? I heard it's haunted."
"Yeah," another one says, "I heard that people see a spirit in one of the windows sometimes." Then he turns to you. "I dare you to go inside."
"By myself?" you ask.
"Yeah. Why? Are you scared?" he teases.
"No," you say, but you are a little nervous. "What about the babysitter?"
"We'll keep her busy."
You turn and look at the house through the trees. There aren't any lights on anywhere, and it looks pretty scary. But you're not sure that you even believe in ghosts, and it would make a pretty good story.
