The Senior Retreat is an essential part of the Catechesis and Evangelisation Program at Xavier Catholic College.  Retreats are central instruments of Pastoral Care within the College and an integral part of your son/daughter’s personal development.  At Xavier Catholic College, attendance at Retreat is compulsory for students in Year 10 and for all senior students at the beginning of their HSC studies.

This retreat experience invites our senior class to look closely at how they view themselves, how they relate to others, and how they experience God in their lives.  It offers an opportunity for the students to celebrate what they have already achieved, to set goals for their immediate future and to realise that they are not alone.  We ask that you keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

The 2022 Senior Retreat will be facilitated by staff from Xavier Catholic College, along Youth Ministry Officers from various secondary colleges in our diocese, Spiritual Directors from the Faber Centre for Ignatian Spirituality and a team from the Two Wolves Leadership Collective.  Parents who would like to learn more about this organisation are encouraged to visit their website:  http://thecardonerproject.org/leadership-collective/https://jisa.org.au/qld-faber/

If you have any questions regarding this retreat, please contact Mr Eyles at the College.

Please complete and submit the Google form which includes; Medical details, Parental Consent and (where applicable) the request to be dropped off at Yelgun or Byron Bay on the return journey by Friday, 16 September 2022.

Yours sincerely,

Expectations Regarding Behaviour and Cooperation on Retreat
To gain the most benefit from this retreat experience, it is imperative that students enter into the activities in a positive manner. Cooperative behaviour, politeness and punctuality are expected from all students at all times.
Students and parents are advised that cooperation is essential to the following matters:

  1. The school policies on illegal and illicit drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
  2. The Queensland Conference and Camping Centre (QCCC) regulations regarding care of property (with appropriate compensation liable for any damage caused) and prohibiting noise after 10:00pm.
  3. Boys are not to be in girls’ cabins.  Girls are not to be in boys’ cabins.
  4. No student is to be outside their cabin after “lights out” (approximately 10.30pm).  Most cabins have ensuite bathrooms.
  5. Students are not to leave QCCC Mt Tambourine during the retreat unless accompanied by a teacher.  Students may not receive visitors while on retreat.
  6. Mobile phones may be used during free time only and must not be brought to workshops, liturgies, discussion groups etc.
If students are in serious breach of the rules outlined above, parents may be contacted (regardless of the hour).  Students who misbehave or disrupt the Retreat may be removed from the conference venue and arrangements made for them to be collected and taken home.

WHAT TO BRING
Students will need to bring the following items:-
  • A snack for morning tea on Wednesday, 26 October
  • Money for lunch at a road side Service Centre on our return journey - Friday, 28 October
  • ‘Coffee money’ if students wish to make use of a café providing barista service each morning for $3.50
  • Pillow, sleeping bag or sheets and a blanket (those in sleeping bags still require a bottom sheet - Health    and Safety Regulations)

  • Respiratory etiquette and hand hygiene protocols will be emphasised for the duration of the event.

Absence from Senior Retreat
All students and parents were advised quite explicitly on enrolment that Retreats are compulsory for all Xavier Catholic College students in Years 10 and 12.  As a Jesuit Companion School, we strive for Cura Personalis - the education of the “whole” person.  This philosophy includes academic excellence, but recognises the need to ensure that each student develops an awareness of their own spirituality, the need for good relationships with others and an understanding of themselves and their giftedness.

Consequently, all students are expected to attend the retreat and parents are urged to encourage them to participate as fully as they can in this unique opportunity.  Students are not offered a choice whether or not to go on Retreat as it is an integral part of their involvement in this College community.
