VISIT HARDEE BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPLICATION
Purpose and Structure of the Board

The Visit Hardee Board of Directors oversees the governance of Hardee County Tourism by establishing policies and priorities for carrying out the organization’s mission of promoting Hardee County Peace River and marketing the county as a destination for escaping the chaos and enjoying the simple life such as camping, picnics, kayaking and more. The Board consists of no less than three to no more than fifteen directors approved by Visit Hardee Board. An Executive Committee, composed of the Visit Hardee Board officers, has the power to act on behalf of the organization.

Eligibility

To be selected for nomination and to remain on the Board, one must be passionate about Visit Hardee's mission, or the designated representative, of a lodging business, or appointed by a Board of Directors to represent your company as an operator of a tourism-related business, or an employee or director of a non-profit organization that promotes tourism in Hardee County.

The Visit Hardee HR Committee makes a special effort to select a slate of nominees that will allow Visit Hardee to continue its policy of having a Board of Directors that reflects diversity, not only in terms of the type, location and size of lodging businesses, but also in terms of gender and ethnicity.


Term of Office

The term limits for the Board and the Officers may be modified by vote of majority of the current members of the Board of Directors (not counting vacancies).

The elected offices shall serve One (1) year terms with no more than three (3) terms consecutively, the Immediate Past President shall fill one of the Board of Director positions for the fiscal year following office.

 The term of office for all other directors on the Board will be no more than five (5) years consecutively. After completion of a five (5) year term, a director must complete resignation of a consecutive twelve (12) month period prior to qualifying by majority vote return to the Board to serve as a director; with the exception of the Immediate Past President remaining on the Board of Directors for the fiscal year following office.



Attendance at Board meetings

Directors are expected to attend Board meetings. Meetings are approx. 2 hours and are generally held at the Visit Hardee office. Directors who fail to attend two consecutive regular meetings without just cause for such absence of the Board meetings in a year may be removed by vote of the Board.


Leadership Duties

Directors are required to serve on one of the Visit Hardee committees. The frequency of committee meetings varies according to need. Directors are urged to show leadership by attending events such as the Annual Pioneer Festival, Red White & Boom and Trail of Fear, and other community events as well as securing 1 or more sponsors per event.

Board members are also asked to take an active role in board member development and retention by assisting the HR Committee in identifying prospective board members.


Board of Directors Application Form

To be completed by persons wishing to be considered for nomination to serve on the Visit Hardee Board of Directors. This form will be forwarded to members of the HR Committee as background information during their deliberations to recommend a slate of nominees to the Board of Directors.

Applications are reviewed at the beginning of each month, and recommendations are made to the Board of Directors at month end meeting, Term of office is based on start date. Upon approval of application, all new board members will be required to complete a non-disclosure agreement.
