ALF Oregon's Program Committee Presents Senior Fellow Saturdays!
Senior Fellow Saturdays take place on the Saturday between the Thursday/Friday that Class 39 meets and the Sunday/Monday that Class 40 meets. Our next Senior Fellow Saturday is in Burns on April 9th.
All Senior Fellows and Fellows are invited. You are welcome to bring a partner/spouse/guest.
Our Day in Burns
9:30 - 11:30AM: Eastern Oregon Youth Correctional Facility
The Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) is part of Oregon’s juvenile justice system and is responsible for youth ages 12 to 24 who commit crimes before age 18. Through your ALF Oregon class, many of you had the chance to visit Mac Lauren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn, OR, or, one way or another, hear from OYA Director Joe O'Leary (ALF Oregon Class JJCL). Hearing about OYA's innovative "positive human development" practices and other transformative measures have proven to be one of the most impactful ALF Oregon experiences.
At this Senior Fellow Saturday, we will visit the Eastern Oregon Youth Correctional Facility in Burns and hear from their Superintendent Doug Smith and other OYA staff about their work, their facility, and the unique challenges that arise in their efforts in rural Oregon.
12noon: Lunch (local place, TBD)
1PM: Field Trip to Malheur Wildlife Refuge (if there's momentum)
6PM: Historic Central Hotel Patio Taproom
Cost is a $10-$20 per person to the cost of rapid COVID tests and staff time. It's a sliding scale. Please pay what you can.
We will send you a link to pay in your confirmation email that will also have specific meeting locations and other details. Email Kelley Whitmore with questions,
kelley@alfo.org.
We are excited to see you there!
