URGENT NEED FOR YOUTH MENTORS! PLEASE FILL OUT THIS INTEREST FORM AND YOU WILL BE CONTACTED WITH MORE INFORMATION
URGENT NEED: Children and youth throughout the county need to attend virtual classes away from school this school year, while their parents might still need to go to work. This is a major crisis for two reasons: (1) it is crucially important for both children and older youth to have supervised, safe environments where they can learn when their parents are at work, and (2) it is important for student learning that they attend classes every day, and have support from an adult, when learning remotely.
CAPACITY MUST EXPAND: Our child care and youth programs aren't currently set up to serve the high volume of young people who now need their services.
WHAT WE ARE DOING ABOUT IT: Pro Action Kids On Track is coordinating efforts in Steuben County to expand child care and youth programs into donated spaces (churches, fire halls, etc.). In order to spread out programs this way, we need additional adults at these "satellite" sites to serve as mentors who supervise and support student learning.
ABOUT MENTORING: All mentors are unpaid. You will receive orientation & basic training, and a background check. All Virtual Learning sites will adhere to Covid 19 safety guidelines, including all individuals self-screening for symptoms prior to coming to the site. Ideally, mentors can commit to a predictable schedule of at least a half-day on at least two days of the week.
PLEASE HELP! If you are someone who can help the community in this capacity for the next 4 months on a fairly regular schedule, please fill out the interest form below. We can then match you with a program and a site.
THANK YOU! There was already a shortage of child care in our communities before the pandemic. The closing and partial closing of schools for this length of time is something nobody could have predicted. We do need our whole community to pull together to support children and families during this highly unusual time. THANK YOU FOR STEPPING UP!
