아티스트 토크: 캐서린 오피

아트선재센터는 오는 7월 2일 캐서린 오피(Catherine Opie)의 아티스트 토크를 개최합니다. 오피는 인물과 풍경을 주제로 하는 사진 작업을 통해 아메리칸 드림과 미국인의 정체성을 탐구하는 강력한 작품 세계를 구축해왔습니다. 오피는 1990년대에 작가 주변에 있는 게이, 레즈비언, 트랜스젠더 친구들의 초상화 작업을 하면서 처음 알려지기 시작했습니다. 이후 미국 전역을 여행하며 미국의 다양한 공동체와 풍경을 탐구하고 고등학교 미식축구 선수, 2008년 미국 대통령 취임식 등과 같은 미국적 주제를 기록하는 한편, 미국의 하위문화를 격식을 갖춘 초상화를 통해 드러냈습니다.

Artist Talk: Catherine Opie

Art Sonje Center is pleased to present Catherine Opie’s artist talk on July 2. Opie is known for her powerfully dynamic photography that examines the ideals and norms surrounding the culturally constructed American dream and American identity. She first gained recognition in the 1990s for her series of studio portraits, photographing gay, lesbian, and transgender individuals drawn from her circle of friends and artists. Opie has traveled extensively across the country exploring the diversity of America’s communities and landscapes, documenting quintessential American subjects—high school football players and the 2008 presidential inauguration—while also continuing to display America’s subcultures through formal portraits.
