Perform in neighborhoods throughout the Twin Cities this summer as an Open Eye Theatre Driveway Tour Puppeteer. Learn the art of puppetry and gain firsthand experience with a grassroots community-building program. This is a part-time, seasonal position.
Time Commitment:
- Rehearsals: approximately 30 hours of rehearsal, flexible schedule based on team availability, but generally 3-hour sessions, 3 days/week. Exact rehearsal schedule will be TBD, pending selection of performers.
- Performances: Selected artists would perform approximately 35 times over a 6-week period (either June 9 - July 14, OR July 18 - August 25.) Shows are scheduled at set times during the week - Wed/Thur/Fri evenings at 7pm; and Saturdays+Sundays at 1pm, 4pm, & 7pm. Most shows take place within Minneapolis & St Paul; some shows may occur in nearby towns, such as Red Wing, Rochester, or Taylors Falls. The shows for the 2024 DWT are: MOLLY & THE MAGIC BOOT and THE AMAZING COWBOAT!
Primary Job Function: As a Driveway Tour Puppeteer, you will perform, puppeteer and sing in an original, all-ages puppet show. You will also engage with the audience, hosts, and children after each performance. Before and after each performance, you will transport, unload, set up, and tear down the puppet theater from the touring vehicle. Driveway Tour Puppeteers are ambassadors for Open Eye Theatre in neighborhoods throughout the Twin Cities.
Compensation: average $2220.00 - $2530.00 (based on 35 shows @ $52 each + $450 for 30 hrs rehearsal)
Qualities Required:
- Ability to project voice outside
- Ability to perform outdoors in variable weather
- Ability to lift 20 lbs.
- Must be personable, outgoing, and punctual
- Previous performance experience
- 18+ years old
Qualities Desired:
- Experience with youth, all ages
- Previous customer service experience
- Driver's license a plus
