Description: Professor Colette Routel, Professor of Law and Co-Director of the Native American Law & Sovereignty Institute at the Mitchell Hamline School of Law presented on the July 2020 U.S. Supreme Court decision in McGirt v. Oklahoma. McGirt, which recognized the continued existence of the Creek Nation's Reservation in Oklahoma, has been hailed as one of the most important Indian law decisions in the past 40 years. Professor Routel provided an overview of the McGirt decision, how the decision has altered the legal landscape for tribes and states, and the implications of the decision for Minnesota.
