Gift of Bread provides volunteers with clarity about their roles, and is clear about expectations and policies that impact on their roles. Our volunteers respect the roles of everyone in our organisation.
Gift of Bread recognises and celebrates the contribution of all volunteers. All our people receive training and professional development in their roles.
Gift of Bread provides all our people with the opportunity to resolve disputes with respect and dignity.
VOLUNTEER POLICY AND CODE OF CONDUCT
The fellowship fosters and promotes Christian principles and volunteers are expected to demonstrate principles of good conduct and acceptable standards of behaviour, to act honestly and with reasonable care and diligence in the performance and discharge of their duties and functions. Volunteers must treat fellow volunteers, workers and clients with trust, honesty, fairness, sensitivity and dignity. Team leaders have a special responsibility to model this kind of behaviour.
The fellowship has information about individuals, businesses and charitable issues that is private and sensitive. Volunteers must keep this information confidential at all times. When they leave they must continue to respect the confidentiality of information gained while volunteering. They must take care to maintain the integrity and security of official documents or information in their possession, for which they are responsible, or to which they have access to, for example, ‘Bread Consignment’ sheets.
Volunteers must be courteous and honest in their dealings with other individuals, organisations and clients. Volunteers must never solicit, demand or request any gifts or benefits, nor accept gifts or benefits either for themselves or for another person, which might in any way, either directly or indirectly, compromise their role or the work of the fellowship. However on occasion volunteers may accept token gifts that are offered as a gesture of gratitude from clients.
By consistently applying these standards of behaviour, we enhance public trust and confidence in each of us and in the work of the fellowship.
WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY
The Gift of Bread recognises its responsibilities under work health and safety (WHS) legislation to provide a safe and healthy work environment for all its volunteers. This commitment means that we will work with the parishes we serve to:
• Provide support and assistance to volunteers with adequate training to enable them to work safely.
• Comply with all relevant legislation and industry standards, investigate reported incidents and conduct regular reviews and evaluations of the health and safety systems in place.
• Consult with volunteers where relevant to enhance the effectiveness of procedures and provide adequate resources to assist volunteers in fulfilling their responsibilities.
Our volunteers have the right to work in a safe working environment, including one that tolerates differences and is free from any form of discrimination, intimidation or harassment. Volunteers should make themselves aware of WHS requirements and the basic provisions of the various Acts and Regulations that apply to them.
Our volunteers have a ‘duty of care’ to take adequate precautions to safeguard their own health and safety, take reasonable care to ensure good health and safety procedures are implemented at all times and to ensure that their negligence or carelessness does not contribute to the injury of any other person.
Our volunteers must use any equipment provided for health, safety or welfare purposes (e.g. trolleys, gloves) and report any potential hazard or injury immediately to their team leader. In the case of an incident, for example a medical emergency or fire hazard, take appropriate action to ensure everyone’s safety, report all incidents to your team leader, (Call 000, Ambulance or Fire Dept if necessary).
ROAD SAFETY POLICY
The Gift of Bread is committed to promoting road safety and encourages good driving practices. Volunteer drivers must hold and maintain a valid driver’s licence and only drive a vehicle that is registered and insured.
Drivers must have the knowledge, skills, attitudes and information to make safe choices on our roads. The Gift of Bread may request a Driver’s Licence Check to confirm driver licence and demerit point status of drivers engaged to drive vehicles.
CHILD SAFETY STRATEGIES
The Gift of Bread supports the involvement of children in our work and all volunteers should be familiar with current Child Protection Legislation and the policies and practices that make our organisation child safe.
Key responsibilities for all volunteers include being caring, respectful and compassionate towards children and complying with all legal requirements relating to child safety and protection.
