Washington State Arts Commission Community of Care Initiative Information Survey for Arts Organizations
The Washington State Arts Commission (ArtsWA - www.arts.wa.gov) is developing a new initiative called Community of Care, to support, enhance, and strengthen arts programming  for under-served Washingtonians including older adults, veterans, people living with disabilities, and youth across the state.

As a preliminary step in the development of this initiative, ArtsWA is compiling a list of organizations and teaching artists that are currently providing arts services to older adults in Washington State. We will use this information to assist in the creation and implementation of a training for teaching artists which will be offered online in January 2022.

Please take a few minutes to fill out the following survey. We value your thoughts, experiences, and suggestions as we begin to sculpt this new initiative for the state.

Professional teaching artists are practicing, professional artists who have dual careers as educators. They are also known as artist educators, cultural workers or community artists. They come from every artistic field—music, dance, theater, visual arts, writing. They work in a wide range of settings as teachers with individuals, groups and/or communities.

What percentage of your arts programming for older adults is facilitated by credentialed therapeutic arts professionals*? *
*Therapeutic arts professionals are trained and credentialed artists. They use visual art-making, drama, dance and movement, and music to improve the physical, mental and emotional well-being of their clients. This often involves prescriptive use of the arts to benefit the health of individuals or communities.
Does your organization work with both professional teaching artists and credentialed therapeutic arts professionals? If so, please describe how you make a distinction between these two types of arts professionals. What is the context for the services they provide through your organization?

Does your programming include instructors who may NOT self-identify as teaching artists, yet DO serve those age 55+ through the arts or other types of creative engagement? An example is someone who facilitates non-arts-specific activities such as classes in cooking, gardening, woodworking, interior design, etc. If yes, please describe.
CONTACTS:  We are compiling a comprehensive directory of resources for Washington State.  If your arts organization contracts with outside teaching artists, therapeutic arts professionals, volunteers or outside arts organizations to provide arts programming for older adults ages 55+, please share their name(s) and contact information.  If you know of other organizations and teaching artists in your area who also provide these services, please include this information as well.
