2020-21 Yarrow Board of Directors Application Form
Yarrow Intergenerational Society for Justice is opening applications for its Board of Directors.  If you are interested in becoming a board member please complete this form by Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020.

A nomination committee will convene to review all applications.  Successful applicants will receive an email notification by December 01, 2020.

Successful nomination applicants will be required to attend Yarrow's online AGM on December 03, 2020 at 6pm, as well as provide a short statement about yourself during the AGM. Nominated candidates will be elected during the AGM with a majority vote from members in attendance. To attend our AGM, visit the Zoom link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89792809526.

Yarrow is seeking Board of Director Nominations from candidates who have experience or passion for at least one of the following areas:
- Grassroots organizing
- Intergenerational community building
- Indigenous, Black, People of Colour community building, and mindfulness around East Asian settler privilege
- Concern for property and retail gentrification
- Experience in anti-poverty government advocacy
- Anti-oppression frameworks and approaches towards and not limited to poverty, over-policing, substance use and mental health issues
- Finance and accounting
- Governance and policy
- Fundraising and grant writing
- Communications and public relations
- Human resources and administration
- Strategic planning
-Ability to speak and/or write in Cantonese or Mandarin
- Knowledge of Chinatown and the Downtown Eastside neighbourhoods

***We welcome experiences from professional work, volunteer work, and lived experiences.  Passion is a key element and we welcome applicants who are open to learning and developing skills in any of these areas!

Yarrow welcomes any applicants who can commit to:
1.  Work to uphold Yarrow's Mission and Values, outlined on our website:  https://www.yarrowsociety.ca/about
2.  Dedicate 1-8 hours per week for a one year term

Key responsibilities include:
-Collaborating and leading the strategic planning of the organization
-Providing supervision to senior staff members
-Financial management, including the adoption of annual budgets and financial statements
-Hiring of all staff members and maintaining an HR policy manual
-Work in partnership with the staff team to ensure the programs and services offered are reflective of the needs of the community and in alignment with the organizational mission and values
-Plan an annual fundraising event
-Join and co-lead small groups to take on various projects (ex. HR Committee, Finance Committee, Fundraising Committee, and Language Access Campaign Committee)
-Plan and attend monthly Board meetings, additional Board meetings may be necessary depending on the needs of the organization.

Yarrow Intergenerational Society works in the Chinatown/DTES neighbourhoods with low-income Chinese Seniors, as well as in community with other marginalized groups, including and not limited to Indigenous people, the LGBTQ2+ community, sex workers, people with disabilities, and BIPOC individuals.  What is your knowledge or experience with some or all of these groups? *point form response is acceptable. *
