In my studio there is an invitation to take risks and experiment with new ideas– it’s ok to not have all the answers. I mimic life experiences in a visual and kinesthetic way through a process-based practice of creating. As I observe my experience in the form of an art piece, I am able to see it from a new perspective and imagine possible futures. The process of making each piece is a form of meditation, which allows me to be fully present, experience rest, gain clarity, and transform over time.
During my residency at You Belong Here, I’ll be exploring themes of belonging and parallel work and play. My current materials/processes include watercolor, simple print-making, fibers, natural materials from neighborhood walks, and my daughter’s artwork and old clothing. Some sources I am currently listening to for wisdom and inspiration are:
Design for Belonging by Susie Wise
Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer

The lived experiences of the students, families, and staff that make up the Monarch School community (where I have my day job)
