Step into Podiatry at Kent State!
Podiatry is the field of medicine entirely dedicated to the care and treatment of the lower extremity, specifically the foot, ankle and related structures of the leg. This medical specialty remains a gem amongst others, and we are on a mission to broaden Aspiring Physician's exposure!

Podiatrists are physicians, surgeons, and specialists of the foot & ankle.

This profession allows the practicing DPM (Doctor of Podiatric Medicine) to explore their interests in dermatology, reconstructive surgery, sports medicine, endocrinology, plastic surgery, and more! DPMs are the most specialized to address those lower extremity complications, as they will address everything from the skin to the bones.

This semester, we challenge you to #StepIntoPodiatry and join us for an info session featuring a current podiatric student!

Many aspiring physicians do not realize that this is one of 3 routes to become an attending physician. While the MD and DO routes are more popular, podiatrists are physicians trained in their craft to treat patients independently.

They are trained to work in their specialty, as are other physicians, they must pass state examination, they complete 4 years of podiatric medical education, followed by 3 years of hospital-based surgical residency.

Podiatrists play a vital role in keeping their patients on their feet - working with athletes of various levels and contributing to the healthcare team.
