About Us
Research states that Black Children and Young People who enter the Care System, experience challenges that see them disconnected from their Culture, Identity and Heritage, which results in them not having a positive sense of who they are or their origin; they are not prepared for the wider world of Racism and Discrimination and experience this in the Care System; and their Aspirations are not affirmed and championed.
If these challenges are not overcome, our Black
Children and Young People in Care will go on to have the poorest outcomes and
life chances in comparison to any other ethnic group within Children’s Social
Care.
With this in mind, in 2020 The Black Care Experience was launched to help change the narrative for the current and next black and in care generation.
In 2021 we produced a Directory listing products and services available to help us all raise and care for the Black Children or Young People in Care.
As part this Initiative we're on the lookout for Hair Stylists, Braiders and Barbers to help provide Hair Care, for our Black Children and Young People in Children's Social Care.
We're on the lookout for Hair Care Specialists who are able to teach Foster Carers and Residential Children’s Home Staff on how to care for the Hair of the Black Child or Young Person in their Care, and we're looking for
Hair Care Specialists to teach those Black and In Care, how to Care for their Hair.

We're on the lookout for Youth Work Services who are able to provide a service in a safe space where our Black Boys and Black Girls can express themselves (without judgement) and be empowered and equipped with the knowledge of how to achieve and have the life and future they hope for.
We're also on the lookout for Anti Racist Practice Trainers who are able to skillfully and sensitively hold space to impart the truth and knowledge in this area, to those who work in Children's Social Care.
