ECCO Exploration activity
This activity gets you digging around in Eighteenth-Century Collections Online (ECCO).

THE GOAL is to find at least three non-literary documents published in the eighteenth century to aid your understanding of a particular concept from the period. Your search results can certainly yield literary documents, too, but I'm particularly interested in the para-literary for this assignment.

THE PROCESS requires you to think of a search term/keyword and to see what kind of results ECCO gives you. Follow these steps to complete this activity:

1. BEFORE YOU LOG IN, list at least three concepts from the eighteenth century that have interested you in the readings so far. For each concept, note one or two alternate or qualifying keywords you might use for search terms. (e.g. I might search on "power" as well as "authority")

2. Access ECCO through the UNG Libraries website.

3. Select the "research tools" link on the home page and read about the history of ECCO and how to use it.

4. Determine a keyword or search term related to our readings from this semester.

5. Conduct your research using the various tools and limiters available in the database. Note questions below about the "topic finder" and "term frequency" tools.

6. Upload at least three documents to your shared Google Drive folder (the one with your own name on it). Make sure to note MLA citation info in the form below.

7. Discuss the results in class.

Take screenshots/download files along the way and record your results for our discussion. You may post one of your results as a primary source QCQ for the week.
