Workshop women in Computer Science and Engineering: from bits to gigabytes

The Computer Science (CS) Department of the University of Essex in UK holds a Bronze Athena Swan chapter award, expressing the institution's commitment to support gender equality in STEMM careers (science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine). The Athena Swan Charter was created in the UK and has spread globally as a framework to support and transform gender equality within higher education and research.

In a project financed by the British Council, professionals from the CS department of the University of Essex are sharing their experiences in promoting gender equality in order to facilitate the development of knowledge and policy to support women’s career progression and development at the CS groups of two Brazilian partners: ITA and UNIFESP.

A first joint workshop in May 2022 presented and discussed experiences related to "Women in Computer Science" careers in the UK and Brazil (https://www.wcomp.ita.br/). This second workshop will broaden the audience and is collocated with the I International Conference on Women in STEAM, on 21 and 22 of October, 2022. The professionals will expose their professional careers and their experiences in initiatives related to fostering Women in computer science and engineering. Similar projects financed by the British Council will also be presented.

The workshop will take place at the São José dos Campos Technological Park and will not be transmitted online. We have 100 spots for the second workshop, please subscribe next!
