Cloud-native automation survey

This survey aims to understand CSP strategies for cloud-native network automation to examine: 1. key drivers and adoption timescale of cloud-native networks 2. cloud-native network automation motivations and pain points 3. cloud-native network automation partner choices and implementation plans 4. views towards Nephio/Kubernetes-based automation

Our definition of ‘cloud-native networks’ aligns with the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) definition, namely:

  • Cloud native technologies empower organizations to build and run scalable applications in modern, dynamic environments such as public, private, and hybrid clouds. Containers, service meshes, microservices, immutable infrastructure, and declarative APIs exemplify this approach.

  • These techniques enable loosely coupled systems that are resilient, manageable, and observable. Combined with robust automation, they allow engineers to make high-impact changes frequently and predictably with minimal toil.

'Cloud-native network automation' refers to the automation of lifecycle operations (Day 0,1,2+) of cloud-native networks including cloud-native software functions (CNF/VNF), cloud infrastructure management layer (Kubernetes, OpenStack) and cloud-native infrastructure (public, private and hybrid cloud).

This survey will take approximately 25 minutes to complete. Your responses will remain anonymous and will not be shared with any third party.
