Mulgoa Vertebrate Pest Group - Autumn 2020 workshop
MULGOA residents are invited to a public meeting to hear about a pest animal control campaign in their local area. Coordinated by the Cumberland Land Conservancy (CLC) and Greater Sydney Local Land Services and supported by the Mulgoa Valley Landcare, the meeting will outline the best way to reduce the impact of foxes as well as information on other pest species.
Foxes pose a serious threat to local wildlife in the area as well as native vegetation, domestic pets and livestock. CLC was formed out of a mutual passion for environmental conservation with a particular focus on Cumberland Plain Woodland. Coordinated control campaigns over a larger area were the most effective way to reduce pest numbers. This is about taking a whole of community approach to fox management which includes training for landholders in cage trapping as well as laying baits safely. We will also talk about the increasing number of deer sightings and damage that have been recorded in the area. Linda will demonstrate the use of Feralscan to map deer activity and how to identify the different species in the area.
