Join hiker/photographer/environmentalist Harvey Halpern as he takes us to the most beautiful, least visited Public Lands in Utah’s Canyon Country, rarely seen by other backpackers. Most of these lands were included in the Tribal proposal for Bears Ears, but none of them were included in the original designation of Bears Ears National Monument by President Obama. This would be rectified by a new bill that seeks to restore Bears Ears AND include all the lands proposed by the five Native American tribes. Come see the photos from a 26-day backpack trip to Lost Cowboy Country, learn about the threats facing these lands, and what you can do to help protect them.

About our Speaker: Harvey Halpern of Cambridge, MA has been exploring the most remote corners of Utah’s Canyon country since 1974. His off-trail backpacks have been as long as 33 days where he’ll rarely see other backpackers. Harvey also custom-designs backpacking trips in Utah and the Northwest, based on your needs, experience, and interests. Ask him at the show!

Potluck:  Please arrive with your contribution between 6:30-6:45 pm. Homemade salads and main courses are always welcome,  takeout & store-bought goodies are equally welcome:) Serving spoons, plates, bowls, cups, cutlery, napkins, and drink pitchers will be supplied. There is a kitchen to re-warm food or prep (stovetop, oven, 2 microwaves, sink & fridge). Please bring your own cook pots for the stovetop. HELPFUL TIP: There is a Whole Foods store conveniently located across from the Community College T Stop on Austin St (in the Bunker Hill Mall) for last-minute food pickups!

Public Transit: Take the MBTA Orange Line subway to the Community College or North Station stop. Walking times from either stop is ~10 minutes. The AMC's front door is located to the left of Legal Oysteria at 10 City Square, Charlestown, MA. Use Google Maps for walking directions from the T.

Driving & Parking: The best way to find us is to enter "10 City Square, Charlestown, MA 02129" into Google Maps or your GPS. There is a SMALL amount of free parking along the north side of City Square Park (street name is: 'City Square') after 5 pm. There are 2 parking garages within a short walk (0.3 mi away):
- Nautica Parking Garage: 88 Constitution Road
- Constitution Center Parking Lot: 1 Constitution Road
