Activities for Homeschoolers at JTL
In 2024, we are planning to offer some new programming for homeschooling families. If you might be interested in attending, please fill out this survey so that we can gauge community interest and find times and days that work for the greatest number of people.

Family Book Club: Each month, we encourage kids and their adults to read the same book and then come to the library to discuss it over snacks. You can read the book together, listen to it as an audiobook, or each read the book on your own. Kids of all ages (and their adults) are welcome to attend, but we will be selecting books marketed to kids in grades 3 to 6 (ish).
Youth Writing Club: Kids gather together for themed writing activities. Activities may center around poetry, writing jokes, collaborative storytelling, secret codes, creative stories about mixed-up animals, and more.
Hoaxes in History: We will learn about different (kid-friendly) hoaxes throughout history. Kids will develop information literacy skills and practice scaffolded online search strategies on kid-friendly search engines to determine whether or not surprising stories - like the existence of the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus - are actually true. At the end of the series, each kid will create a fake animal and try to convince everyone else that it is real. We will use our search strategies to separate real but unusual animals from the fabricated ones.
Around the World in 2024: Each month, we will learn about a new place, through stories, music, mapmaking, and other activities. Kids will learn research skills and take turns teaching one another.

Please note: We are currently planning to meet on the second floor of the library, which is only accessible via staircase. However, we are committed to ensuring that all members of the community can access our programs and services and may be able to relocate the program or make it available via Zoom.
