In a follow on to the Common Security 2022 Report, the International Peace Bureau, the Campaign for Peace, Disarmament and Common Security, Asia Europe People's Forum, and PEACEMOMO are in the early stage of developing Common Security diplomatic proposals to provide alternatives to the increasingly dangerous military tensions that dominate the region. Understanding China’s international policies and ambitions is critical to this work.

We have invited Professor Zhiqun Zhu to help us more deeply understand China’s policies as we build the foundation for our work. Members of our respective boards and a limited number of our colleagues are invited to join us.

Zhiqun Zhu, PhD, is Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Bucknell University. He was Bucknell’s International Relations Department Chair (2017-2021), inaugural Director of the China Institute (2013–2017), and MacArthur Chair in East Asian politics (2008–2014). He previously taught at University of Bridgeport, Hamilton College, University of South Carolina, and Shanghai International Studies University.

He is the author and editor of a dozen books, including A Critical Decade: China’s Foreign Policy 2008-2018 (World Scientific, 2019); China’s New Diplomacy: Rationale, Strategies and Significance (Ashgate, 2013); New Dynamics in East Asian Politics: Security, Political Economy, and Society (Bloomsbury, 2012); The People’s Republic of China: Internal and External Challenges (World Scientific, 2010); and US-China Relations in the 21 st  Century: Power Transition and Peace (Routledge, 2005).
