Overview
Purpose of the Research
The purpose of the research is to find out, for a solo artist, what are the differences between being an Independent artist and being signed to a record label? What are the different types of record labels and how can this create a difference in the artist’s experience? Is it better to be Independent or signed to a label or do they both have an equal amount of pros and cons? Is it all a trade-off? Therefore, does it just come down to personal preference? Or is it more nuanced than that?

To prevent any potential risks of the study, the survey and details from the interviews will be anonymous to protect the identity of participants.
Details of who will have access to personal information and the purpose(s) for which participant information will be used.
Only I will have access to all information provided through the surveys and interviews. Personal identifiers will not be used in the dissertation, but details of the experiences and opinions will. My tutors at ACM will have the details and data used in the dissertation.
How data will be stored and how long it will be kept before being destroyed?
Data will be stored on Google Forms and Zoom recordings of the interviews will be stored in a file on a password-protected computer and ACM’s protected storage file. The data will be destroyed after the day of my qualification.
