PSYCHOPOMP DANCE CHOREO SUBMISSIONS 

Psychopomp Dance is looking for new or already created dance works to be performed in our August 2024 Dance Festival at Highways Performance Space.

The Simple Details:

Dance must utilize an object or prop that is intrinsic to the piece itself. 

Dance run time approx: between 6 to 9 minutes. (Dance must not be over 10 minutes) 

Choreographer will receive modest stipend for their work.

Work will be shown in one of two weekends either August 23rd-24th or August 30th-31st at Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica CA

Explanation of concept of piece: (max 300 words)

(Example: Cybil is a new work I am creating that tells the story of a woman who was murdered by a jealous ex lover in his barn in the backwoods of Louisiana. Now Cybil haunts his barn every night as revenge. Will Cybil and her ex lover be able to make amends and find peace or are some deeds unforgivable? The dance will utilize acrobatic partnering, loud vocalizations, lighting shadow play and will utilize multiple hay bales as scenic props.) 

If you plan to create a new piece please provide: 

Explanation of mood of piece including prop choice, costume and lighting ideas. Artists may include 3 images to further explain costume/lighting/mood if they would like to do so. (max 300 words)

(example: This new work will be dark, disturbed, twisted and eerie. Dancers will wear burlap sacks. Prop will be multiple hay bales. Lighting will be very sculptural with warm tones of ambers/yellows/oranges and create silhouettes.) 

If you plan to create a new piece please provide: 

Work Samples (via youtube or vimeo with passwords if necessary):

3 work samples with a 2-3 sentence description of each work and 2-3 sentence explanation of how your new work will be similar or different in comparison to each work sample.
