City View Computer and Internet Acceptance

Dear City View Families,

With technology being more ubiquitous in today's learning environment City View wanted to inform families of the measures we are taking to keep their students safe online.  Computers and the Internet are powerful educational tools and we believe that the benefits for students far exceed potential disadvantages. Everyone using computers and the internet at City View Charter School is expected to act in a responsible, appropriate, and ethical manner. We realize that there are concerns about children being exposed to materials that are illegal, defamatory, or potentially offensive. City View has set up filters that block our school’s computers from accessing the vast majority of these undesirable sites. Students not following the Guidelines outlined in the Computer Use Policy will not be permitted to use  our school’s computers or their profile will be limited for a given amount of time, depending on the offense.  City View’s Computer Use information can be found in the student and parent handbook online of the family may request a printed copy.

City View Charter School is committed to protecting student information so the  school  has chosen to use Canvas and GSuite for our primary Distance Supplemental Learning platform. Google and Canvas  take security seriously, with industry-leading safeguards and privacy policies. Canvas, G Suite for Education and Chromebooks meets security standards that are in compliance with: FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), The Software & Information Industry Association, COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998), Student Privacy Pledge introduced by the Future of Privacy Forum (FPF) and ISO/IEC 27018:2014 (Data standards).

Note: A student and/or family can choose to opt out of video conferencing, use only audio features or complete provided paper materials.

City View also uses GoGuardian to monitor school accounts.  GoGuardian is also FERPA and COPPA compliant and has received compliance badges (Including SOPIPA) by iKeepSafe, a 3rd party firm that works with both schools and ed tech providers.   When students are logged into their City View account whether on a school device or a personal computer GoGuardian will launch so school personnel can monitor and safeguard Internet usage.
