For faster results, try to do your research ahead of time. Under "Choosing Your Roses", you will find a list of our roses and a link to our page on www.HelpMeFind.com. This year's catalog is under construction, but you can peruse last's year's catalog on our website: www.gethsemanegardens.com/roses.

Not all of our roses are ready to go home yet! Most were planted this spring, which means they are not rooted in enough to be planted yet. We will let you know when they are ready, and arrange your pickup day at that time.

Ready to grow roses? If you are new to roses, there are a few things to consider.

1. Roses need FULL SUN, at least 6 hours of DIRECT sunlight every day. Choose the sunniest spot in your yard for your roses. If your roses do not get full sun, they may have fewer flowers, smaller flowers, and disease problems.

2. Roses are not difficult to grow, but they do require special considerations when planting and maintaining. Our Rose Care Guide will help you along! Follow this link to get a copy:

3. Roses are hungry beasts! Feed them regularly and you will be repaid in luscious blooms. Be sure to order some rose food!

4. Roses need regular watering, but they really dislike sprinklers. A drip system or careful handwatering are the best. Additionally, roses need loose, rich, well-drained soil. Our Chicago area soil can range from solid clay to sandy near the lake. Consider amending with compost or soil conditioner, either from your compost pile or ordered below.

1. Roses are available on a first-come, first-served basis. We have listed the roses that we have the largest quantities of in stock, but as requests come in we will sell out of certain varieties. Rarely, some varieties just don't do well and will not be available for purchase.

2. Roses that were planted this year (our freshman roses) will not be available until mid-May at the very earliest. (Hey Tom Skilling! Send us some seasonably warm temperatures, please!)

3. Certain varieties, mostly climbers, shrubs, and David Austin shrub roses, are available as established 2nd year plants. The price point is higher, but you'll gain a year's growth. The plants tend to be considerably larger, so bring the minivan, not the Fiat! When we call or email you to confirm, we will go over your options.

4. Please note! MOST of our roses are stored in a yard across town. We have a few varieties in stock, but for specific roses we bring them into the store for you in a day or two.

4. Not seeing the variety you want? Let us know what you are looking for. We do have many other roses available, but only in small quantities. It's definitely worth asking!

1. Our rose selection is relatively limited this year due to early-season uncertainties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Please bear with us. We will do our best to find the perfect rose for your garden!

2. Not sure which variety is best for you? Need some guidance? There are many resources online to help you decide. Our favorite is Helpmefind, where you can see photos and read reviews from real rose gardeners, not marketing teams.

3. If you prefer, we can help you choose. Instead of listing a specific variety, list the characteristics you'd like to see in your new sweetie. Keep in mind, it may take a little longer to get your rose this way. Again, thanks for your patience!
