Diversity, Equity  and Inclusion Story Survey
Please use the survey below to share an experience or a "story" you have had within the Gorham Schools in dealing with issues around Diversity, Equity  and Inclusion.  These stories can be positive in nature, or these stories can shine a spotlight onto some of the challenges we need to face together.  Focus on the story itself, not necessarily the characters since the characters aren't as important as the story itself.  As a means to assist in story telling, I've provided an example below.  I look forward to hearing YOUR stories!  At the end of the survey, if you want to follow up with me and meet individually, please share your name and email and I will reach out ASAP.  THANK YOU!

Example:

Last year, my daughter who was in grade 1 of one of the Gorham elementary schools came home crying after school.  This was in the early part of the year, just a few weeks after school had begun.  She said she had been out on the playground with her class in the afternoon just before school was dismissed.  Her class had earned a little extra playground time for concentrating extra hard on their math lessons earlier that morning.  She said she had gone over to a bunch of the other girls in the class to play four square with them and one of the girls said sure, smiled at her and then proceeded to ask her how she got her hair to braid the way she did.  One of the other girls laughed and started making fun  of her hair saying it was thick and dark and would stand straight up if it wasn't braided.  My daughter told the teacher.  The teacher came over and talked with both girls and the girl apologized, but then later on the bus she started making fun of her hair again.  That is why she was crying.  Clearly the apology didn't work.  My daughter was devastated and refused to wear her hair down, wanting it straightened and up in a pony tail every day for the next month before I could convince her it was beautiful again.

Again, notice I gave the context of where the story occurred, a little bit about the characters, but didn't use names, etc.  Names aren't the important part...the important part is to describe the experience  and its results.
