Raise (the walls to) The Roof for Karen's Birthday
Thank you for your interest in helping to bring the Mountain View Homestead and Flower Farmette fully into being!

After delays due to contractor error, COVID, the heatwave, and wildfire smoke, we are in a big push to stack the remaining rows of blocks by mid-October so that we can have roof trusses installed at the end of the month.

There are MANY ways to help us reach that goal. Please indicate below how you would like to help. We look forward to welcoming you to be part of our family's journey!

Note: this form is collecting emails in order for us to send you our Leavenworth address and to help you request a copy of your rsvp details. The email will not be used for any other reason without your permission.

TASK CATEGORIES
WORKSITE SETUP (1 - 2 people)
  • Arranging supplies and work stations
  • Site cleanup
BLOCK STAGING & STACKING (6 - 8 people)
  • Staging means moving blocks from the pallets to the house floor to help the stackers access the right blocks at the right time. You will use the motorized cart but there is repetitive lifting and carrying the 28 pound blocks.
  • Stacking requires laying the blocks in the correct orientation, adding the fiberglass rebar in every other row, and leveling the rows as needed. Karen will make the specialized block cuts, if needed.
  • Stacking begins on the floor and eventually is done on the scaffold at about 6' height.
FLOOR INSTALLATION WORK (2 - 4 people)
  • Working off of scaffolding set at about 6' height.
  • Installing the joist hangers and beam hangers
  • Installing the 2x12 ledgers in manageable sections
  • Installing the 3 1/2" x 11 7/8" glulams in two spots (heavy lifting)
  • Using a powerful drill and hole saw
  • Installing I-joists and blocking between the joists
  • Laying the subfloor on the joists
BASEMENT APARTMENT PREP (2 - 3 people)
  • Marking the location of the wall studs on the slab
  • Marking where the pex plumbing and electrical wires will run in the walls and ceilings (limited work on scaffolds)
  • Channeling and boring holes into the Faswall walls where needed
  • Helping Karen build and install a floor-to-ceiling bookcase

Would you like to camp on our property during your work party visit?

We have space for folks to camp on our property, either in the yard, or in a tent inside the basement apartment.

We have rustic but functional bathroom facilities, a covered camp kitchen area, and can pretty much guarantee that you may hear or see some of the local wildlife since we backup to a wildlife corridor.

Come help us out, then walk into town for the festival festivities, and come on back to Be Our Guest!
