NWA Plaza Student Design Project
We need your creative ideas for the space between the Plaza and Century Tower buildings. We'll be able to do bigger improvements longer term but for now we're gathering input on what we can do in the short-term that students can help with in August (e.g. plants, mural, lighting, seating, etc). On April 20th we'll be giving an all-school presentation about the project. Over the next few weeks students will have a chance to work in their learning labs to create a proposed plan and develop more design ideas.  Students that want to do more can form a team and develop a full plan of ideas for submission in early May. We'll vote to pick the top designs and then install our Phase 1 design in August with help and involvement from students.
  • What are your ideas for quick and artful improvements we might do now this summer?
  • What might be possible longer term?
  • Themes you might suggest?
Please take a few minutes to share any ideas, goals and priorities you may have.

ART & SCIENCE
How might we integrate this into our space? Think of as many ideas as you can!
THEME(S): What themes might be an inspiration? Pick one or several and feel free to add your own under "Other"! This could be a word, concept or phrase...
PHASE 1 - IMPROVEMENTS NOW (This summer) What are ideas for the plaza that students can help with and would be fast, fun, and impactful?
Where in the space (e.g. ground, wall, sky, sidewalk)?

Considerations: Lightweight, low cost, vandal-resistant, and easy to install - think paint, plants and benches, lights, and art. (We have a small budget that will pay for materials, supplies and labor)

PHASE 2 -  What could we do as a bigger more permanent project in the next 1-5 years (e.g. level surfaces connecting the spaces between buildings, bigger improvements, reconfigured space)?
VISION - Imagine a "Day in the Life of the Plaza," how is it used? On special days what might happen? What things does it have in it? What would make it beautiful, fun, comfortable and alive?

GOALS & PRIORITIES: We know there is interest in art, plants, seating, and blocking car access for safety. Are there other priorities NOW (e.g. leveling access between the buildings, improved lighting, performance stage, rain protection?
PLACES TO SIT:  What kind of seating do you prefer either for fun or comfort? Feel free to suggest more ideas and/or add any other specific comments under "Other". (You can pick several)

What kind of accessories would be fun, interactive and/or useful? (For example, painted running track or chess board, garden)
INSPIRING EXAMPLES
Can you think of fun inspiration for this project from a place you have been or seen? Please share things you liked about it. (Tell us where it was if you know, it's ok if you don't. Bonus if you can share a link to an image.) These ideas can be big, small, practical and not, this is the "IDEATION PHASE"!

Examples:
1. I love the crosswalk in downtown Portland with painted raindrops instead of white crosswalk lines
2. Chicago has benches that are swings for grownups and kids which is cool!
