                7th Grade ELA 2019-2020

This class focuses on increasing and improving reading and writing skills. Many of our assignments will take days or even weeks to complete. We will also have short daily assignments. The following things will help you be successful in this class.

Materials
Paper… a lot of paper every day
A binder or a section of your binder for English only
A two-pocket folder that will stay in the classroom
Highlighters
A reading book (You will use a reading book every day!)
For safety reasons, students will not be allowed to read on their phones.

Attendance
DO NOT EXPECT GOOD GRADES IF ATTENDANCE IS POOR.
We need you in class for group projects, discussions, and partner work.
It’s your responsibility to gather and complete missed assignments.

Students who consistently use hallpasses to leave class miss important information and essential work time. Hallpasses will be limited. If your student has a medical issue and needs to leave the classroom, please let me know so we can work together to help your student.

Extra Credit
Book Clubs
Lunch Time Activities with the Librarian
The opportunity for extra credit is also built into the class work.
Extra credit will not be customized for students at the end of the quarter.

Homework
Any assignments not finished in class will be expected to be completed as homework. Students should also be reading for a minimum of 20 minutes daily at least five times a week.

What happens when work is late? Late work, re-dos, missing assignments and retakes for the first half of the term will be accepted during the first four weeks of the term. Late work for the second half of the term will  be accepted through the ninth week of the term. The last week of each reporting period is reserved for grading and recording grades. No Late work will be accepted during that week. Work due prior to midterms will not be accepted after the midterm grade has been posted. Late work may be subject to a reduction in points.
