What is a Peer Minister?
A Peer Minister is a teenager who is first and foremost committed to Christ and his Church. From this flows a desire to share this truth with friends, family, and community. No Peer Minister is perfect, but he/she is a committed member of a team and a person who is constantly striving for holiness. Peer Ministers engage in extra learning, prayer, and planning time in addition to regular youth ministry sessions. They are given opportunities to teach, lead, and serve through youth ministry and are encouraged to develop positive relationships with their peers.
What commitment is involved?
Each Peer Minister is expected to be present for each gathering of their ministry team – planning, executing, and evaluating as an active member of the team.

The schedule depends upon the ministry (or ministries) in which the peer minister will be serving:

HSYM/CONFIRMATION TEAM PEER MINISTERS:
----Open to all Confirmed high school teens
----TYPICALLY meet regularly on the first Wednesday of the month, briefly before and after Confirmation & HSYM gatherings, for additional trainings as scheduled, and more frequently when preparing for big events (e.g., retreats, night of reflection, etc.)

MIDDLE SCHOOL YM TEAM PEER MINISTERS:
----Open to high school teens, regardless of school or whether you have been Confirmed
----TYPICALLY Meet briefly before and after Sunday evening sessions, plus some additional training, planning, and evaluation meetings

SPECIAL EVENTS/TECH MINISTRY/ELEMENTARY FAITH FORMATION/OTHER MINISTRY PEER MINISTERS:
----Open to all high schoolers
----Meet on as as-needed basis for training, planning, and evaluation

Regardless of ministry, Peer Ministers are often given tasks to work on independently at home such as writing and practicing a witness talk, looking for fun ice breakers, or reaching out to encourage their peers.

Review the program, calendars, make note of all HSYM/Confirmation and/or MSYM -AND- peer/adult leaders ministry gatherings on your calendars. Please contact Ms. Rena with any conflicts as soon as you are aware of them.

Peer Minister Expectations
I will help build our community by being consistent in attendance and by treating the other members as I would like to be treated.
I desire to follow Jesus. Therefore, I will commit myself to serving others, remembering that what I do should bring glory to God and not to myself.
I will do my best to share the Good News of Christ through my words and prayers, and especially my actions.
I will choose to follow the teachings of the Church, and to observe carefully the rules the Church has established.
I will commit myself to a lifestyle that will be a model to my peers. I will avoid the use of drugs, alcohol, unchaste behavior, violence, profanity, negative talk, and gossip.
I will commit myself to pray on a daily basis for myself and for the members of my team, and will seek guidance from the Holy Spirit.
If at anytime I do not live up to these expectations Ms. Rena may dismiss me from the peer ministry team with the full understanding that I am still very welcomed at youth ministry and in the Church.

By typing my name below, I affirm that I will abide by the above expectations. *
