Roguelike Celebration 2022 Call for Proposals
Give a digital talk at the Roguelike Celebration on October 22-23 2022! Event info: https://roguelike.club/

We'll be hosting an online livestream during the Celebration, like we have the last two years. You'll have the option of giving your talk/performance live or providing a recorded version. We'll have a mix of full talks (30 minute slots) and lightning talks (10 minutes), as well as opportunities for performances that don't fit the mold of a typical talk.

We are happy to once again offer an honorarium for all speakers/performers - $150 for full talk slots, and $50 for lightning talks.

We're excited for anything related to roguelikes, game development, or procedural generation in general. Most of our talks tend to be developers talking about their own work, but we'd love to hear about your experience as a player, or more non-traditional art performances — in the past, we've had activities ranging from a Nethack speedrun with live commentary to a full-on procedurally-generated live comedy show. We're open to anything, so long as it somehow ties into either roguelikes or procedural generation!

For more tips of what to avoid in your proposal, what details we're looking for, and examples of past accepted proposals, you can check out the guide on our website here: https://roguelike.club/cfp.html

We especially encourage diverse applicants to apply. We welcome people of any gender identity or expression, race, ethnicity, size, nationality, sexual orientation, ability level, neurotype, religion, elder status, family structure, culture, subculture, identity, and self-identification.

If you have any questions, feel free to email us at contact@roguelike.club.

All proposals must be submitted by July 31, 2022. Feel free to make multiple submissions!

Bio *
Tell us about yourself! If your talk is accepted, you'll have the chance to tweak or change this before it's published.
Talk/Performance Title *
We'll show this on the conference schedule online. Don't worry, you can change it later!
What would you like to propose? *
Tell us your idea! Totally fine if it's a rough draft of an idea - we can email you back and work with you on it. What's the topic? What will people learn? What makes you excited about it? This is just for us, not for the public conference schedule. See tips on a good proposal here: https://roguelike.club/cfp.html
Do you see this being a full talk (30 min), lightning talk (10 min), or something else entirely (live performance, panel discussion, live game playthrough, etc) *
Depending on scheduling, we may ask you to fit your content into a specific time slot, but we'll do our best to give you the slot you prefer.
Do you have anything else to share about your proposal?
We're curious to learn about any previous writing/talks/etc. you've done on roguelikes or related topics (even vaguely related). You don't need to put anything here, but feel free to provide any extra context that may help us understand your proposal.
Do you have any questions or concerns about speaking that you'd like to talk to us about?
If for example you're anxious about being a first time speaker, live in a non-North-American timezone, have specific requests about how you present your face, or any other details that might make you hesitate to submit your proposal - please feel free to share them and we're happy to do our best to provide mentorship, technology assistance, and whatever else can make the event work for you.
Do you identify as a member of a marginalized or underrepresented group?
This will not affect selection criteria, and is just so that we can track our own diversity efforts internally.
Clear selection
Do you work for an organization that might be able to sponsor us?
Even digitally, we're looking for folks to help chip in for options like swag and AV equipment for our speakers! If you know someone who might be able to help us out, let us know and we'll reach out. As above, your answer here will have no effect on our speaker selection.
Clear selection
Do you (or will you by October 2022) have a game listed on Steam you'd be interested in including in a Steam sale?
We're considering doing another Steam sale this year (no promises!). Do you have a game you'd be interested in showcasing as part of that? Your answer will not affect our talk selection process, and we will be featuring games by developers who are not speakers. This just means you'll probably get an email from us about the Steam sale in the future if you choose "yes".

A copy of your responses will be emailed to the address you provided.
