St. Nectarios Acolyte Registration
Dear Parents of Acolytes of St. Nectarios:
On behalf of the entire St. Nectarios community, Ted Pappas and Jim Demakis, our Acolyte Co-Directors, I want to thank you and your son for participating as an Acolyte of St. Nectarios. New for this year is that I am lowering the age of Acolytes to 2nd Grade as I would like to engage the youth of our community as early as possible. In addition, each Acolyte is required to register and attend Sunday School on a regular basis starting this fall.
We are very fortunate to have an Acolyte program in the Greek Orthodox Church which allows young men, in 2nd Grade - High School Seniors, the opportunity to participate in services on a regular basis. I am confident that your son will come away with a greater respect for the church, learn so much as an Acolyte at St. Nectarios, and have a better connection to the church as a whole.
Being an Acolyte is an honor for any young man in the church. And therefore, should be treated with respect. We have put together an Acolyte Agreement for not only the boys to sign, but for the parents to sign as well. As part of the Acolyte program here at St. Nectarios, we will be having Acolyte groups along with group leaders, so that the boys can work together as a team, learn responsibility, and develop leadership skills.
The groups will allow for the boys to have a regular schedule as to when they will be required to serve, and will ensure that they don’t miss Sunday School continuously. Group leaders will be assigned this fall based on skills (knowledge of processions and tasks while serving) and attendance. Both are very important to the development of our Acolytes and I will personally be determining who has shown the knowledge and has the attendance to be assigned as a group leader.
Please submit the attached 2019 - 2020 Acolyte Agreement signed by both your son via this Google Form. You will need to submit one form for each of your sons if you have more than one who will be serving.
In His Work,
Fr. Chris Mihalopoulos
