Vermont-NEA Aspiring Educator Program is a state-level program with members from Vermont Higher Ed Campuses. This spring/summer, we are offering programs to support your professional goals, wherever you are in your academic programming. Vermont-NEA offers free NEA memberships to aspiring educators. Utilizing Vermont examples, you will learn how to use the MCEE as a road map for a successful career. Important Laws for educators are also discussed in this workshop.

April 6, 2022 @4:00-5:30 pm - Landing Your First Vermont Teaching Job - Join Vermont-NEA Early Career Educators to learn how best to land a Vermont job. This panel discussion and Q&A session will provide you with up-to-date information on how to get hired in Vermont, how to prepare for your interviews, and how to use your union to learn more about the school/district as you decide which school to select as your first teaching job.

August 24, 2023 @4:00-5:30 pm - Student Loan Forgiveness - Do you have student loans? This session will help you navigate the programs available (Teacher Loan Forgiveness, Public Service Loan Forgiveness) to pay your student loans following your grace period. There have been major positive changes under the Biden Administration that will result in savings for all educators with loans.

April 27, 2023 4:00-5:30 pm - Preparing for Your Student Teaching Year -Your student teaching experience is a critical phase in your teaching program, enabling you to gradually assume responsibilities so you are as profession-ready as you can be. This webinar will provide some tools and suggestions on how to embrace this experience so it is instrumental in supporting your ongoing professional growth.

May 2, 2023 @ 4:30-6:30 - Your Brain, Your Life: How Stories Drive Perception - This workshop explores the marvelous brain and how our understanding of how the brain works supports our teaching and learning.

August 1, 2023@4:00-5:30 pm - Building a Positive Classroom Culture from Day 1 - You have landed your first job and are eagerly anticipating the first day students enter your classroom. This webinar will provide suggestions on how to build a positive classroom culture that enables all students to feel safe and valued, an important prerequisite for a culture of learning.

August 10, 2022 @ 4:00-5:30 pm - Understanding Your Contract - When hired, you will receive the collective bargaining agreement which defines the agreement between the employer (school district) and the educators (union) made as part of the collective bargaining process. This session will review the highlights of the agreement so you understand your rights and responsibilities as an educator in the district.

August 15, 2022 @ 3:00-4:00 pm - Utilizing Your Mentor To Strengthen Your Practice - New teachers will be assigned a mentor by your school district. Learn about the mentor role and how to use your mentor to strengthen your practice. Trained mentors will provide suggestions from your first meet and greet through your first year. Mentors and mentees have a confidential relationship and is nonevaluative.

August 17, 2023 @4:00-5:30 pm - Teacher Evaluation - A Process of Growth - Teacher evaluation will vary from district to district, but all new teachers are expected to have two formal observations from their administrators during their first two probationary years. This workshop will introduce you to Danielson’s Framework for Evaluation instrument as well as the typical process in Vermont Schools. Learn how to utilize the process to support your professional growth.

August 22, 2023 @ 4:00-5:30 pm - Starting Your First Year of Teaching Successfully - You have landed your first job, signed your contract and are now ready to start your career as an educator. This workshop will provide tips and suggestions from early career and mid-career educators.
