No matter what you are teaching, one thing is true: a well-crafted lesson is also a well- scaffolded lesson. Scaffolding is a teaching method that involves gradually shedding the instructor's assistance as students increase their understanding.
This course will explore the gradual release of the responsibility approach, the misconceptions about scaffolding, and provide strategies to empower teachers to scaffold any lesson successfully.
Participants will be able to:
Identify their own strengths and challenges when scaffolding.
Describe the stages of scaffolding, the purpose of each, and how they look in the classroom.
Determine the kinds of activities that fit into each of the four stages.
Explore lessons, tips, and tricks that demonstrate ownership of scaffolding.
Create several highly effective scaffolded lessons for classroom use.
