Take a step back in time and join the Wellesley Historical Society in a tour of one of the town’s most important early monuments, the Village Church burial grounds. Skulls, willows, urns, and angels. These and more are common depictions found in old burial grounds. What can these symbols tell us about history and custom here in New England? The Village Church burial grounds is lauded as one of the most important historical monuments in Wellesley history for its cultural significance to the area. We will explore the grounds, prominent graves, and discuss early cemetery customs, iconography, and symbolism. … And a tale of the tombs is certain to send a chill up your spine!
