Shadeville Guidelines:

Shadeville is a shade structure approximately 30 by 60 feet large. It can accomodate about 18 tents with a 10 x 10 foot section each.

It is purchased by, and set up in, Anonymous Village as a contribution to lessening our transportation impact on Black Rock City. It is specifically and primarily for Sober Burners who carpool, take the Burner Express Bus, arrive by small footprint vehicles such as motorcycles or are international travelers who's amount of "stuff" is constrained by travel arrangements. (Everyone in your carpool need not live in AV for you to be eligible for space in Shadeville.)

If all space is not used by the above Burners then Burners who received ticket aid and First time Burners may apply to live in Shadeville. If there remains space then any clean and sober Burner may apply to live in Shadeville. Whenever there are more applicants than spaces there will be a lottery to decide which applicants shall live in the Shade.

Please indicate on your "Camp With Us" application that you are eligible to, and wish to, live in Shadeville. If you are not eligible but wish to live in shadeville if there are openings, then please tell us that on your application. If you are placed in shadeville you will be notified by email. Any positions decided by lottery will be notified by the first week in August.

If you do not complete your "Camp With Us" application before August 1, please do not plan on living in Shadeville, though late placements will be made if space allows.

The Shadeville footprint will include a parking area for those who have cars or other vehicles and a bicycle parking area. Efforts will be made to place Shadeville in such a way as to minimize wind inside the structure and enhance incorporation into the Village.

There will again be a Kitchen area in Shadeville. (It is unknown if there is a carport structure to house this though....) It is acknowledged that this area needs more responsible use and management than there was in 2022. The Kitchen consists of tables, a stove and a cooler. There were some sharded utensils in 2024.

It is acknowledged that Shadeville needs specific and integral leadership. These individuals should plan to live in Shadevill and should have lived in Shadeville for one year previously. They should be available to assist with pre-Burn placement of the shadeville structure and with planning the placement of individuals in the structure. They should be willing to assist Burners with getting set up and settled in the structure on opening day. Probably they should have Work Access Passes.

These leaders will be available to troubleshoot problems in the Shadeville and will work with Village Leadership to resolve issues. In the future the Mayor/coordinators/point people of Shadeville may be elected by the residents of Shadeville or appointed by some other means.
