Great job on the Unit 3 Test last week!!
This week we learn abou the Samaritan women at the well. There are many extra documents attached to this lesson and a video to watch.
First remember that the land where Jesus lived does not have a lot of lakes and rivers. Most people got their water from a well--usually in the center of each town. Every day women or girls went to the well to get the water they needed for that day.
Jesus was a Jewish man. The town he was visiting had many Samaritan people living there. Samaritans did not speak to Jews. Jesus spoke to a Samaritan women at the well. She was shocked yet she was able to ask Jesus questions like Where can you get this living water? Of course, the living water is believing in Jesus Christ, the Messiah. The woman recognized Jesus as a holy man. She also knew, even without Jesus telling her, that He is the Messiah, the Good News.
Remember that we refer to Jesus as the Good News---the One who suffered, died, and rose from the dead so that humankind can share in God's life.
In Sunday's Gospel, Jesus asks a woman to give him some water because he was thirsty. What would you do if Jesus asked you for water?
