The professional relationships that an early career teacher builds when they first enter the profession are key determinants for their continued success and confidence as Educators. Recognising this, many schools intentionally establish professional relationships between early career teachers and a mentor teacher as one critical relationship. The Navigating The First Years Early Career and Mentor Teacher Program provides a unique space for this relationship to grow and flourish, quarantining important time within the busyness of the school year.
Over three days in terms 2 and 3, early career teachers and their mentors engage in practice-focused mentoring and the building of a reciprocal and dialogical relationship, to support early career teachers cope with the demands of the job, build morale and increase their knowledge.
This time will focus on:
- Day 1: Building a practice-focused mentoring relationship (Av Swami) + setting personal wellbeing goals (Sam Healy)
- Day 2: Establishing positive and orderly classrooms (Bill Hansberry)
- Day 3: Growing Culturally Responsive Teaching (Max Lenoy, ACARA) + wellbeing check in (Sam Healy)
