Welcome to Jones Lane Elementary School! We know that Kindergarten can be an exciting yet scary time for both students and parents.  We know in these circumstances this is an even harder transition. The PTA is focused on building community connections for the 2020-2021 school year.  Since we are not getting together in the same way we used to, we are launching the Kindergarten - 5th Grade Buddy Program, where we will pair up students and families to give some extra support, as you navigate a new school.

In light of COVID precautions, we are going to start the Kindergarten - 5th Grade Buddy Program virtually.  The students and families will connect over email. Currently, MCPS does not allow for elementary students to email each other, so we are going to have to use parent emails for now.

We will pair up each 5th Grade volunteer with one incoming Kindergartner.  We will pair up buddies on a rolling basis - so you can join anytime.  We will email your buddy's contact information before school starts.  We will also provide suggestions of how to start communication, along with monthly writing prompts for the kids.

We ask that if you sign up to be part of the Kindergarten - 5th Grade Buddy Program, that you encourage your student to communicate with their buddy at least once per month.  We will also ask that the 5th Grader send a welcome message.

Sabemos que el kindergarten puede ser un momento emocionante pero aterrador tanto para los estudiantes como para los padres. Sabemos que en estas circunstancias esta es una transición aún más difícil. La PTA espera establecer algunas conexiones comunitarias. Como no nos estamos juntando de la misma manera que solíamos, esperábamos juntar a los estudiantes y las familias para brindar un apoyo adicional, mientras navega por una nueva escuela.
