Application for 2021 Slate Run Metro Park Deer Management Project
Since 1998, Metro Parks has implemented an Invitation Deer Hunt to local residents at Slate Run Metro Park in Pickaway County.  During that time, volunteer sportsmen and sportswomen have successfully harvested 663 deer in an effort to assist Metro Parks with its deer management strategy at Slate Run Metro Park.  In an effort to control the parks deer population and to provide more opportunity, this hunt will operate as a lottery hunt in 2021.  As this is an authorized controlled hunt, the 2021 bag limit for this hunt is 2 deer of which only one may be antlered.  Hunters may kill no more than one antlered deer during the 2021-2022 season regardless of where or how it was taken.  For this hunt, antlered deer must be tagged with an Either-Sex Permit while antlerless deer may be tagged with an Either-sex permit OR Deer Management Permit but checked in as a deer taken during an authorized controlled hunt during the Ohio Division of Wildlife game check process.  This 2-day hunt will take place November 29th and 30th. This hunt will only allow shotguns of 10-gauge or smaller and muzzleloaders (as defined by Ohio Division of Wildlife Rules and Regulations). No high caliber handguns, centerfire rifles, or archery weapons will be permitted during this hunt. All other Division of Wildlife deer hunting regulations apply. Applications will be accepted until 4:00 p.m. local time, October 29, 2021. Metro Parks will select 30 participants (plus a partner) by lottery drawing. Successful applicants will be notified by email if they have been drawn. Each successful applicant may have one other hunter (partner) accompany him or her during the project and will be given permission to scout the area before the season. Each hunter and partner may also bring a youth hunter, 17 years old or younger, to participate in this hunt.   All successful participants will receive instructions in early November for completing orientation and receiving permits.  Employees of Metro Parks are prohibited from participating in this resource management program. The application should be completed online at www.metroparks.net. Only one application per person may be submitted. Duplicate applications may be disqualified. For more information call 614-895-6210.
