Support AWRA Inc.'s Position on Thornhill Square Redevelopment as stated in our Participation Statement to the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT)
Hazelview Inc., a developer, is applying to build 4 box-shaped towers (19, 17, 12, & 7 storeys) at Thornhill Square. The developer is now taking the City of Markham to the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT), claiming the City neglected their application. AWRA Inc. applied successfully to the OLT to act as a "Participant" in the proceedings by submitting a detailed Participant Statement.

Neighbours, let all our voices be heard! Please sign this petition to support our OLT Participant Position! AWRA Inc. intends to submit this petition during the OLT process as evidence of neighbourhood support with respect to its position regarding this redevelopment. It will also be shared with our elected officials who have been working on the file.

I support Aileen-Willowbrook Residents Association Inc.'s (AWRA Inc.) position on the proposed Hazelview redevelopment of Thornhill Square, located at 288, 298, & 300 John Street, adjacent to the Thornhill Community Centre, in Thornhill/Markham.

I agree that the "subject land" should:

  • respect the land use objective of “Thornhill Centre” as set out in the Markham Official Plan, Section 9.18.11.1, and in the 1987 Thornhill Secondary Plan;
  • be integrated with a comprehensive urban approach to the area;
  • achieve a balance between land use for residential and non-residential uses that is profitable for the landowner and addresses the needs of the community;
  • make a positive impact on the livability of the area for current and future residents;
  • be based on valid assumptions about transportation conditions and accurate traffic data;
  • include specific traffic mitigation strategies to cope with expected population growth and increased traffic

This petition is distributed under the auspices of the Aileen -Willowbrook Residents Association Inc. For more information, check our website and our Thornhill Centre Amazing Developments group on Nextdoor.
